Precast Concrete Structure Repair
Precast systems are commonly used in construction of concrete structures. Inadequate waterproofing of these structures usually leads to deterioration of concrete connections between precast elements. Because precast structures flex more than other deck systems, combined with the high quantity of joints required, the seals between members necessitate constant maintenance. Welded shear transfer devices between double tees are also a common area of corrosion.
Aside from deterioration at the joints, the large spans used in precast construction transmit large rotational and longitudinal deformations to the bearing beam which is supported by an inverted T-beam or ledger beam. The stress exerted by the bearing deformations then causes the supporting members to spall at their unreinforced outer edges.
